Do you remember when Christmas was the most magical time of year? Rosy cheeks, the warm glow from a crackling fire and the smell of spruce and cranberry filling a room full of laughter? Then come home to Hambleton for a traditional Christmas. Hypnotising log fires, sensational Christmas decorations, carols sung by candlelight and luxurious bedrooms to rest your weary head and relax with those you hold dear.

Start a new tradition this yule

We all have our own festive family traditions from choosing our Christmas tree to switching on the lights and playing our favourite songs while the presents are wrapped, lights are untangled and the gingerbread perfumes the air. At Hambleton we’d like to combine your traditions with ours:

A delicious delicacy

It’s not just Rutland that enjoys this little treat, there’s many counties across the East Midlands who proudly claim this as their own…and it’s one we’d love you to try. Pork Pie for breakfast on Christmas morning. D H Lawrence was rather partial to a slice of this festive fayre, although the origins of this delicacy are rather ambiguous. Whether it began as a treat for farm labourers or provided sustenance for the gentry’s hunt it’s a tradition that’s stood the test and taste of time. However, if ancient rural appetisers don’t appeal to your palate, why not swap a savoury staple for a homebaked Christmas Tart from Hambleton’s award-winning artisan bakery? Filled with sausage, bacon, sage stuffing and cranberries this will fuel your morning and start your celebrations as you mean to go on, with traceable, festive food.

Boxing Day Picnic

Imagine an unforgettable winter picnic wrapped up inside the magical Fort Henry, a gothic lakeside folly in the heart of Exton Park. With the kind permission of Lord Gainsborough, we celebrate Boxing Day in this unique setting, which has become a favourite tradition at Hambleton. We walk from Exton to Fort Henry (1.5 miles) and savour the spectacular views. Fine hot meat pies, cheeses and desserts await the merry party beside a blazing log fire on arrival. Places on this year’s Boxing Day Picnic are now filled, however contact our reception team and they will happily reserve a spot for you for 2019.

Festive feast

As the Christmas countdown approaches the excitement builds here at Hambleton. We’ve decked the Hall ready to celebrate the season with our Nordic spruce awaiting your arrival. Join us for an exquisite black-tie evening to welcome the new year. With champagne on arrival, a six-course dinner with coffee and chocolates, wine throughout your meal and champagne to toast the new year, celebrate in style with us. Wave the year goodbye and welcome the new as you start to go on – with great company, surroundings and the feeling of home at Hambleton.
