Hunt: Burley Wood

A favourite fixture in the Hambleton calendar, Paul Nichol, field mycologist, botanist, author of a guide to identifying mushrooms and toadstools and adult tutor, is returning to lead our mushroom hunt, we have had a mixed bag over the year, some more successful than others, the weather will dictate what we find on the day. Hopefully a good haul of edible, poisonous and hallucinogenic varieties for Paul to describe.

We will gather everyone together at the hotel for coffee and then drive the short distance from Hambleton Hall to Burley Wood, where we will spend the morning foraging mushrooms, such as Lepista nuda – Wood blewit, Clitocybe geotropa – Trooping funnel cap, Macrolepiota procera – Parasol mushroom & Boletus badius – Bay bolete.

Following the fungi-foray we will make our way back to Hambleton Hall for lunch.  Please do bring along a basket to collect your ‘finds’ and appropriate outdoor clothing, perhaps a change of shoes for lunch.
